Sleek Prairie-Midcentury
Project partners: ElementWorx Construction and Chris Wollmuth Architecture
This fun family of 5 was passionate about combining their love of midcentury style with fun Miami, Florida vibes…all while making it fit seamlessly in a completely gutted early 1900’s foursquare.
We started with the kitchen, which features a tiled-in hood in a pop of green handmade ceramic tile. An addition created enough room for a spacious island and attached family room.
Details, details…oversized wood tab pulls add texture to overlay full-access cabinetry.
More details! Modern island pendants, additional pulls in a contrasting green, and luxe gold fixtures.
A custom-designed vertical slat wall does double duty, providing visual interest while also shielding youngsters from jumping over and into the mudroom!
The design from the kitchen extends into the mudroom, integrating an easy-clean porcelain floor tile, and closed storage for backpacks, coats and shoes.
The pantry right off of the kitchen leads straight to the powder room. Tile details galore, with a rose and gold checker floor, and charming arched zellige tiles lining the powder room walls. The space is finished off with a cement sink with exposed plumbing.
The primary bathroom integrates colors from the first floor in a more subdued, spa-like feel, with a varied soft green zellige wall tile, a soaking built-in tub, and natural oak veneer cabinetry.
The kids hallway bathroom makes use of a small space with tons of storage and a large mirror for use with 3 kids. Bold design in this room includes a checker floor that fades to a single color, shower walls with pops of those Miami colors, and a modern built-in tub/shower.
