Nature-Inspired Kitchen

These homeowners were struggling to integrate their desire for a light and bright kitchen into a Craftsman-style home that felt dark and closed off. To open up the space, we reworked the floor plan to allow for one large open wall with open shelving and a feature copper hood.
We packed dedicated storage into a wall of painted white cabinets, and offset the bright white with deep green lower cabinets.
The island features a locally reclaimed walnut countertop, with seating that faces the open shelving wall.
Quarter-sawn oak storage lines one side of the stairs down to the mudroom/entry, and the other features a wire handrail system that’s also topped with oak.
The powder room door opens up to a big print wallpaper and a coral (please help with color!) vanity, which adds a big pop of color.
In the redesigned family room, we added a dry bar and a desk area, as well as a location for the family’s beloved Dachshund to eat.
We worked closely with the homeowners to balance their need to renew the space while paying homage to the home’s roots in the Craftsman style.
